Hello there! My name is Travis Ortiz, and I'm a passionate fly fishing guide. I've been fly fishing Northern California since the 1990s, and nothing brings me more joy than taking anglers out on the beautiful rivers in and around Redding, California.
I'm proud to guide through The Fly Shop in Redding. With its knowledge and resources behind me, I'm able to give my clients a great day on the water. Come join me, and let's reel in some amazing memories together!
Trips run full day or half day. Beginners receive optional instruction and coaching, and the goal is always to have fun, enjoy the day and learn about fly fishing. Lunches and drinks are provided, and fishing gear is available on request. All you need is a fishing license.

Lower Sacramento River guide info and reports →My most popular destination and, in my experience, some of the most consistent and productive steelhead fly fishing in California.
Season: Fall through winter
Trinity River guide info and reports →A great fishery offering a diverse experience. We wade this stream for rainbow trout with dry flies and nymphs.

Upper Sacramento River guide info and reports →A stunning river and a personal favorite. The rainbows here are the originals, and there are some epic brown trout to be earned.
Season: Late spring through mid-November (the Preserve closes Nov. 15; public water below the dam is open year-round)
McCloud River guide info and reports →My most productive wade fishery, but the wading couldn't be any harder. Great for agile, able-bodied anglers.
Season: Spring, summer and fall
Pit River guide info and reports →In June, dry fly fishing for rainbows and browns truly tests your skills, and the salmonfly hatch adds to the excitement.
Season: May through June, and September
Hat Creek guide info and reports →Clear, spring-fed water, selective trout and great mayfly hatches. Fished from a pram, since nearly all of the river runs through private land.
